How to Turn an API Response into a CSV (With a Bearer Token)

Need the data from a REST API in a spreadsheet? Enter the address and your token, and get a clean table.

Most APIs return JSON, which is hard to read and impossible to filter in a spreadsheet. A table lets you sort, filter, share with colleagues and load into other tools. The usual way is a script, or a mix of curl, jq and copy and paste.

In Data Utility, open API Response to Table, enter the API address, and choose how the API checks who you are. Pick Bearer token for headers like Authorization: Bearer your-token, API key in a header for APIs that use a header such as X-API-Key, or Username and password for basic authentication. Click Send request and the JSON turns into a table with one row per record.

Nested fields are flattened into columns such as address.city, so you do not lose detail. If the response has several lists, such as users and orders, choose the one you want. Then download CSV, Excel, JSON or Parquet, or save the table to Recent files and use it in Data Transformation, Data Masking or the Data Profiler.

The request goes straight from your browser to the API. Data Utility never receives your token or the response, the token is kept in memory only, and it is never written to Data Lineage. Use a read-only token when you can. Only GET requests over https are supported, and APIs that do not allow calls from other websites (CORS) will be blocked by your browser.

Frequently asked questions

How does the token work?

Choose Bearer token, API key in a header, or username and password, and paste the value. It is sent only to the API you call, kept in memory, and never saved or written to Data Lineage.

What if the API blocks the request?

Some APIs do not allow calls from other websites (CORS), so the browser blocks the request. Use an API that allows browser access, or ask its owner to enable CORS.

What happens to nested fields?

Nested objects are flattened into columns such as address.city. If the response has several lists, you can choose which one becomes the table.

Is it safe to use a token in API Response to Table?

Your token goes only to the API you call, straight from your browser. Data Utility never receives it or the response. It is kept in memory for that request, not saved, and not written to Data Lineage. Use a token with read-only access when you can.

Tip: Use a read-only token. If you see a CORS message, the API does not allow browser calls.
