Turn a Public API into a Table: A Worked Example
A worked example you can repeat in a minute: call a public API and get a clean table.
We used the public JSONPlaceholder users address, https://jsonplaceholder.typicode.com/users. It needs no token. In Data Utility, open API Response to Table, click Try a public example, and click Send request.
The result in our test was a table with 10 records and 15 columns. The API returns each user with nested objects for the address, the map position and the company. The tool flattened them, so you get columns such as address.street, address.city, address.geo.lat and company.name next to id, name, username, email, phone and website. No data was lost and no code was needed.
You can then download the table as CSV, Excel, JSON or Parquet, or save it and open it in another tool, for example to trim spaces in Data Transformation or to mask the email column in Data Masking. For an API that needs a token, choose Bearer token, an API key in a header, or a username and password, and paste the value. The token is used for that request only. It is not saved, and it is not written to Data Lineage.
Two limits to know. Only GET requests to https addresses are supported. And some APIs refuse calls from other websites (CORS), in which case the browser blocks the request and the tool says so. If a response holds several lists, a picker lets you choose which one becomes the table.

Frequently asked questions
How does the token work?
Choose Bearer token, API key in a header, or username and password, and paste the value. It is sent only to the API you call, kept in memory, and never saved or written to Data Lineage.
What if the API blocks the request?
Some APIs do not allow calls from other websites (CORS), so the browser blocks the request. Use an API that allows browser access, or ask its owner to enable CORS.
What happens to nested fields?
Nested objects are flattened into columns such as address.city. If the response has several lists, you can choose which one becomes the table.
Is it safe to use a token in API Response to Table?
Your token goes only to the API you call, straight from your browser. Data Utility never receives it or the response. It is kept in memory for that request, not saved, and not written to Data Lineage. Use a token with read-only access when you can.
Tip: Use a read-only token for your own APIs. Your token goes only to the API address you enter.
