How Data Utility handles your data: files stay in your browser, what usage statistics we collect, what AI tools send to Google, and your rights.

Summary

Data Utility (datautility.in) is a free set of data tools. Your files are processed in your browser and are never uploaded to or stored on our servers. We collect only basic usage statistics, described below. Questions: gauravrawatdata@gmail.com.

Files you load

Files and text you load are read and processed on your own device. We never receive, store or see your file names or contents. When you close the tab, they are gone.

Usage statistics and cookies

We use Google Analytics (Google LLC) and PostHog to count visits and tool use: the pages you view, which tool you use, the file format and a size range, the website you came from, your browser and device type, and an approximate location worked out from your IP address. We use this only to see which tools are useful and to improve the site. We do not use it for advertising and we do not sell it.

Google Analytics sets cookies, such as _ga. You can block them in your browser settings or with a blocker, and every tool keeps working.

AI tools and Google Gemini

Only when you use Chat with Data, Data Dictionary or Data README with your own Gemini API key, a small summary of your file goes straight from your browser to Google: column names, types, statistics and, only if you allow it, a few sample values, plus your question in the chat. Your full file is never sent. Google's own terms and privacy policy apply to that request. Your key is kept in this browser tab only, is removed when you close the tab, and is never sent to us.

Other services

Screenshot to Data downloads its text-recognition engine from the jsDelivr CDN; your image is never sent. The site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, time and page) for security and reliability.

How long data is kept

We do not store your files at all. Usage statistics are kept in Google Analytics and PostHog for no longer than 14 months.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, for example under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, the GDPR or California law, you can ask what data relates to you and ask for it to be corrected or deleted. We do not identify visitors, so there is usually nothing we can link to you, but email gauravrawatdata@gmail.com and we will reply within 30 days.

Children

The site is not directed at children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We update this page when the site changes. Last updated: 16 October 2026.
