CSV Tick Data to JSON for Charts and Apps

Charts and web apps read JSON, while tick data is usually stored as CSV. Converting it takes a minute if you check a few things.

Open the CSV to JSON converter

Open the CSV to JSON converter, drop the file and turn on type detection so prices and sizes become numbers. Keep timestamps as they are, ideally ISO text or a unix number, and symbols as text.

JSON is a list of records, each with named fields. Numbers and true/false stay as such when type detection is on, but ids and codes with leading zeros should stay text. Choose pretty JSON to read it, or compact JSON to save space.

A day of ticks can be millions of rows, which makes a very large JSON file. For a chart, filter to the symbol and time you need first with the SQL tool, and convert only that.

Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert CSV to JSON?

Drop your CSV file (or paste the data), check the options, click Convert and download the JSON result.

How big can a file be?

It depends on your device. A few hundred MB usually works.

Which conversions does the Format Converter support?

Any direction between JSON, CSV, Parquet and Excel (.xlsx), for one file or a whole folder. Nested JSON is flattened into columns such as address.city. For Excel, the first sheet is read; old .xls files are not supported.

Why did my number or date change after converting?

Types are detected from the values. Turn off "Detect types" to keep everything as text, which also keeps leading zeros in IDs and phone numbers.

Tip: For a chart, filter to one symbol and a short time range before you convert.
