About Data Utility: Free Online Data Tools

Data Utility is a free online data toolkit: convert JSON, CSV, Parquet and Excel, format, mask, profile and generate data in your browser, with no upload.

Free online data tools that run in your browser

Data Utility is a free online data toolkit. You can convert files between JSON, CSV, Parquet and Excel, format and validate JSON, CSV, XML and YAML, turn a screenshot of a table into data, create SQL scripts, generate test data, profile and compare datasets, and mask personal data.

There is nothing to install and no account to create. Open a tool, drop in your file, and download the result.

Convert, format and clean data files

The Format Converter changes a file from one format to another in seconds, for example CSV to JSON, JSON to CSV, CSV to Parquet or Excel to CSV. The Data Formatter beautifies, minifies and checks JSON, CSV, XML and YAML, shows the exact line of any error, and can auto-fix common JSON mistakes. The File Compressor shrinks JSON, CSV, XML, YAML and Parquet files with gzip.

Create, analyze and protect your data

Need test data? The mock data generator creates up to 500,000 rows of realistic fake data, and the schema data generator turns a CREATE TABLE into up to 500,000 rows of test data. The SQL generator writes CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements for PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle and SQLite. The data profiler checks quality and saves a password-protected report, the comparison tool finds added, removed and changed rows, and data masking hides emails, phone numbers and names before you share a file.

Screenshot to Data reads a picture of a table with OCR and turns it into CSV, JSON, Excel or Parquet.

AI tools: chat with your data, data dictionary and README

Three AI tools use your own Google Gemini API key. Chat with Data answers questions about your CSV, Excel, JSON or Parquet file. The Data Dictionary Generator writes a CREATE TABLE script with a description for every column. The Dataset README Generator writes a README.md that explains what your data is about.

Why your data stays private

Many online converters ask you to upload your file to their server. Data files often hold customer or business information, so that is a risk. Data Utility does the work on your own computer, so your files are not uploaded and nothing you load is stored.

The site uses Google Analytics and PostHog to count visits and tool use, such as the pages viewed, which tool was used, the file format, a size range, your approximate location and which website a visit came from. It never records file names, file contents, images or the questions you type.

The AI tools are the one exception. They send a small summary of your file to Google Gemini with your own key: column names, types, statistics and, only if you allow it, a few sample values. Your full file is never sent, and your key is cleared when you close the tab.

Who uses Data Utility

Developers, data analysts, testers, students and anyone who works with spreadsheets, APIs or databases and wants a quick, private way to clean, convert and understand data.

File size limits

Because everything runs in your browser, the file size depends on your computer. As a guide, CSV files up to about 100 MB work well, JSON up to about 50 MB, Parquet about 30 MB and Excel about 20 MB. For larger files, split them first.

Guides and tutorials

Step-by-step guides explain how to use each converter and formatter, from converting CSV to JSON to cleaning a CSV file and fixing broken JSON.
