Data Formatter: Fix and Format JSON, CSV, XML and YAML
Paste or upload JSON, CSV, XML or YAML and get clean, checked text. If something is wrong, you see exactly where.
Data from different places arrives messy: JSON on one long line, CSV with extra spaces, XML with a missing tag, YAML with a wrong indent. One small mistake can stop an app from reading the file.
The Data Formatter has a tab for each format. It adds clean indentation, or shrinks the text when you need a small file, and shows the exact line and column of any error. For JSON, Auto-fix repairs comments, trailing commas, single quotes and unquoted keys. For CSV you can trim spaces and remove empty or duplicate rows.
Everything runs in your browser. When you upload a file, only the first lines are shown on screen. You can highlight words, rows or columns and download the result as Excel.
How to use the Data Formatter: step by step
- Open the Data Formatter.
- Pick a tab: JSON, CSV, XML or YAML.
- Paste your text, or upload a file.
- Choose Beautify or Minify (or the CSV cleaning options), fix any error, then copy or download.
When to use the Data Formatter
- Reading an API response or a config file
- Finding out why a file will not load
- Cleaning a CSV before an import
- Checking XML or YAML before you deploy it
Tip: Tick "Sort keys A to Z" on the JSON tab to make two files easy to compare.
